Weekend Road Closure Scheduled for U.S. Highway 14A Near Broken Boot Gold Mine Southwest of Deadwood
DEADWOOD, S.D. – A weekend road closure is scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at 10 p.m. for pipe installation on U.S. Highway 14A at the Broken Boot Gold Mine southwest of Deadwood. The road is expected to reopen on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, at 6 a.m. A signed over-width detour will be routed to U.S. Highway 85. Following the road closure, paving operations over the new pipe will begin on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, with a single lane maintained with flaggers during daytime hours. During overnight hours, the roadway will be open to two-way traffic. The work is weather dependent and the expected completion date for the paving is Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. Two-way traffic operations will resume following completion of the paving until all the work is complete. The prime contractor on the $550,000 project is Mainline Contracting, Inc. from Rapid City, SD. The project completion date is Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. Healthy Beginnings: A Pediatrician’s Guide for New Parents
Healthy Beginnings is a prenatal class designed to help expecting parents feel informed, prepared, and confident as they approach their baby’s arrival. Led by a pediatrician, this session has a strong focus on vaccines and covers both those recommended during pregnancy and those given throughout early childhood. A pediatrician will walk through how vaccines protect both parent and baby, address common questions, and explain what families can expect along the way. The session also covers several other topics related to newborn and early childhood care, such as: Feeding Sleep Development Fevers (especially in the first month) When to seek medical care and more This session is designed to provide guidance and trustworthy information—so you can feel confident making decisions that are right for your family. The class format includes lecture and discussion. This class will only be available throughout July, August, and September 2026. Who attends? Expecting parents & family members. When should moms plan to attend during their pregnancy? Moms can attend anytime during their pregnancy. What do I bring? Something to write with and a small snack or beverage, if desired. Pedestrian Crossing Change and Traffic Shift Planned for North Euclid Avenue in Pierre

I-90 Exit 46 project continues near Piedmont
KOTA TV: I-90 Exit 46 project continues near Piedmont The South Dakota Department of Transportation reminds travelers to steer clear of scams. Please delete texts or emails that state money is owed for an unpaid toll or parking ticket. Reminder: all South Dakota state-owned roads and bridges are toll-free. https://www.kotatv.com/2026/09/23/i-90-exit-46-project-continues-near-piedmont/ Drivers near the I-90 Exit 46 interchange should expect lane reductions and traffic shifts through November as construction continues. The South Dakota Department of Transportation said I-90 is reduced to one lane in each direction while crews work on the interchange reconstruction and utility relocation. The eastbound reduction runs from about mile marker 45 to mile marker 46, while westbound traffic is reduced from about mile marker 47 to Exit 44. Temporary traffic shifts may occur, but access to homes and businesses will be maintained. The project will also require a temporary water shutoff for all Piedmont homes and businesses between midnight and 4 a.m. on either Sept. 25 or Sept. 26. The city will notify residents and businesses once the date is confirmed. SDDOT expects Sturgis Road and Elk Creek Road to be paved by the end of November. I-90 lane closures are also expected to remain in place through November. Drivers can get project updates by texting I90Exit46 to 605-566-4041.
