Special Weather Statement: Gusty Showers and Landspout Threat in Putnam County

Residents in Eastern and Western Putnam County should seek shelter indoors immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 9, 2026, at 3:16 PM EDT, warning of gusty showers capable of producing a landspout.
At 3:15 PM EDT, radar indicated these showers were located over Satsuma, or near Palatka, moving north at 20 mph. The primary hazards are landspouts and wind gusts up to 40 mph. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible, and gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured items.
Areas expected to be impacted include Palatka, Pomona Park, East Palatka, Bostwick, Orange Mills, Bardin, Hollister, Satsuma, San Mateo, and Carraway. This Special Weather Statement is effective until 3:45 PM EDT today. The NWS advises anyone outdoors in these areas to consider seeking shelter inside a building.
