Residents in Baker, Union, Bradford, Alachua, Marion, Clay, and Putnam counties should prepare for strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective until 7:45 PM EDT tonight, October 9.

As of 7:19 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected strong thunderstorms along a line stretching from Worthington Spring to Melrose to near Fort McCoy. These storms are moving north at 20 mph.

The primary hazard is wind gusts around 40 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects. The NWS advises anyone outdoors to seek shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also accompanying these storms, which may cause localized flooding. Drivers are warned against attempting to drive through flooded roadways.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect for northern and northeastern Florida until 9:00 PM EDT. Locations impacted by these storms include Gainesville, Starke, Lake Butler, Interlachen, Keystone Heights, Raiford, Melrose, Worthington Spring, Fort McCoy, and Alachua.
