Landspout and Gusty Winds Expected Near St. Augustine, Seek Shelter

A Special Weather Statement warns of a landspout and 40 mph winds near St. Augustine until 5:15 PM EDT; outdoor individuals should seek shelter.

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL for a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout and wind gusts around 40 mph. The NWS advises that if you are outdoors, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building.

As of 4:38 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated the thunderstorm was near Saint Augustine South, or near Saint Augustine, moving north at 20 mph. This statement is effective immediately and expires at 5:15 PM EDT.

Areas impacted include Inland Flagler, Coastal Duval, Eastern Clay, Eastern Putnam, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, South Central Duval, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, Northern Inland St. Johns, Southern Inland St. Johns, and Western St. Johns. Specific locations listed are Palm Coast, Saint Augustine, Hastings, Fruit Cove, World Golf Village, Saint Augustine Beach, Marineland, Nocatee, Vilano Beach, and Federal Point.

Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The NWS advises taking appropriate precautions during this period.
