A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Autauga County, including Prattville, with hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and a few tornadoes expected from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon; residents should complete preparations immediately and be ready to shelter.
AUTAUGA COUNTY, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Autauga County, including Prattville, effective immediately, October 8, 2026, at 4:07 PM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours, from Friday evening until Saturday afternoon.
Residents should prepare for peak winds of 40-50 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. Remaining efforts to protect property, such as securing loose objects, should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow banks, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous due to flooded roads and parking lots.
A few tornadoes are also possible. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate. Potential impacts include localized tornado damage, power disruptions, and damage to buildings and vehicles.
