Tropical Storm Warning for Autauga: Prepare for 65 mph gusts, flooding
Autauga County, including Prattville, is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate action advised for potential 65 mph wind gusts, moderate flooding, and a few tornadoes from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon.
AUTAUGA COUNTY – Residents in Autauga County, particularly Prattville, are under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 7:10 PM CDT. Hazardous winds, heavy rainfall leading to potential flooding, and a few tornadoes are possible.
Act Now:
- Wind: Equivalent Tropical Storm force winds are expected with peak gusts up to 65 mph. These conditions are anticipated from Friday evening until Saturday afternoon. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Complete all efforts to protect property as soon as possible. Unsecured lightweight objects may be blown about, and limited damage to porches, awnings, carports, and sheds is possible. Scattered power and communications outages are expected.
- Flooding Rain: A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding rain has the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overspill their banks, and floodwaters could enter some structures.
- Tornadoes: The situation is somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Potential impacts include damage to roofs, chimneys, mobile homes, and downed trees.
