Why Sudbury parents probably didn’t get Valentine's crafts from their kids this weekend…
Sudbury Schools Postpone Valentine's Day Celebrations to April
Parents in Sudbury might have noticed a distinct lack of construction paper hearts and glitter-laden cards this past Valentine's Day weekend. That's because the Sudbury Elementary and Middle Schools have officially rescheduled their annual Valentine's Day celebrations and craft activities to the first week of April, culminating this Friday, April 11th.
The decision, announced via a notice sent home with students last month, was made due to an unexpected surge in flu cases and other seasonal illnesses that significantly impacted student and staff attendance in mid-February, even amid Florida's typically mild winter. "We wanted to ensure all our students had the opportunity to participate in the fun and festivities," explained Principal Elena Rodriguez of Sudbury Elementary in the notice. "By moving the celebrations, we could guarantee a more inclusive and healthy environment for everyone."
Teachers across both schools have been busy preparing for the delayed festivities. Classrooms are now adorned with spring-themed hearts and messages of friendship, replacing the traditional red and pink with brighter, more seasonal hues that echo the blooming jacarandas seen around Miami-Dade. Students are reportedly excited to finally exchange their homemade cards and enjoy classroom parties this week. Parents can expect a belated, but no less heartfelt, delivery of their children's Valentine's crafts by the end of the school week.
