Vero Beach City Council Approves New Sidewalk Project for 12th Street

Vero Beach residents on the city's west side, home to many of the community's longtime residents, can look forward to safer pedestrian access following the City Council's unanimous approval last night, April 14, 2026, of a new sidewalk construction project along a portion of 12th Street. The project, which will span from 20th Avenue to 27th Avenue, aims to improve walkability and safety for families and students in the area, particularly those walking to Vero Beach Elementary School, serving generations of Indian River County families.

The estimated cost for the project is $185,000, which will be funded through the city's capital improvement budget. Construction is slated to begin in late summer, with a projected completion by early fall. City Manager Monte Falls stated, "This sidewalk is a long-requested improvement for our residents on 12th Street, and we are pleased to move forward with a project that directly enhances community safety and quality of life."

Further details regarding the construction schedule and any potential temporary traffic impacts will be announced by the Public Works Department in the coming months. Residents can contact the City of Vero Beach Public Works Department at (772) 978-5200 for more information.
