Two Charged in $13K Construction Theft at Jackson County Bridge Site
National Desk
April 21, 2026
Jackson County Sheriff's deputies responded at 8 a.m. on April 13 to a report of a burglarized construction trailer at the Roy Cumbest Bridge site on Wade Vancleave Road, where about $13,000 worth of equipment was stolen from Chris Albritton Construction.[1][3] Sheriff John Ledbetter said the theft targeted tools essential for the bridge build in this coastal Mississippi county, disrupting local infrastructure work.[1]
Investigators quickly identified suspects Michael Cain Adam, 29, arrested April 16 on a commercial burglary charge, and Joseph Clifton Morrell IV, 28, nabbed April 15 on commercial burglary, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and a Mississippi Department of Corrections probation violation.[1][3] The trailer breach highlights rising equipment thefts plaguing Mississippi's construction sector amid booming Gulf Coast development.[1]
The investigation remains active, with deputies warning more charges could follow.[1][3] Chris Albritton Construction, a fixture in Jackson County's building scene, reported the loss promptly, aiding the swift arrests.[1] Residents near Vancleave are encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 228-769-3063 or Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898 with tips.[1]
