Troy University Lecturer Wins Faculty Excellence Award
Dr. Avington Medeiros, a history lecturer at Troy University, received the Dr. Robert Kruckeberg Faculty Excellence Award on April 15 during the university's annual Honors Convocation.
The Faculty Senate presents the award to an outstanding lecturer or adjunct faculty member for excellence in teaching, research, and service. Faculty Senate President Dr. Lenetra Jefferson, Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr., and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Kerry Palmer presented the award.
The award honors Dr. Robert Kruckeberg, an associate professor of history who died in December 2020 at age 43 from cancer. Kruckeberg joined Troy's faculty in 2012.
Medeiros holds a bachelor's degree in history and a master's in post-secondary history education from Troy University. She also earned a master's in secondary history education from Faulkner University and a doctorate in rural education from the University of West Alabama.
She researches rural education and history and social studies instruction. Her dissertation examined how teacher preparation programs in Alabama prepare educators for rural schools.
Medeiros advises history and social science education students and supervises interns in those programs.
