Tampa Police Probe Deadly Shooting in Live Oaks Square Home

National Desk
April 16, 2026
Tampa Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire just before 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 3700 block of East Powhatan Avenue, in the Live Oaks Square neighborhood east of downtown Tampa.[1][2] Upon arrival, they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound inside a residence. Tampa Fire Rescue crews provided life-saving measures before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.[1] The shooting marks the latest violent incident in a Tampa area plagued by gun crime, though authorities have not yet released the victim's identity or details on suspects.[1][2] Detectives are interviewing witnesses and piecing together the events that led to the fatal encounter, with no arrests announced as of Thursday morning.[1] The incident occurred amid a string of recent homicides in the city, including arrests in earlier cases on East 5th Avenue and West Spruce Street.[2] Live Oaks Square, a residential pocket near Ybor City known for its historic charm and proximity to bustling Tampa Heights, has seen sporadic violence amid broader efforts to curb gun violence through community policing.[1][2] TPD classifies the case under report number 26-223114 and is seeking public tips. Anyone with information is asked to call 813-231-6130.[1]
