Spring Accent Walls: Adding Personality to Your Living & Dining Rooms
As spring breathes new life into Tampa's vibrant neighborhoods, many residents are looking for fresh ways to update their homes. One trend gaining local traction is the strategic use of accent walls to infuse personality and vibrancy into living and dining spaces.
Local interior designers note that an accent wall can dramatically alter a room's feel without the commitment or cost of a full repaint. "It's a fantastic way to introduce a pop of color or a unique texture," explains Sarah Jenkins, owner of 'Coastal Living Interiors' on South Dale Mabry Highway. "For Tampa homes, we're seeing a lot of clients opt for shades that reflect our beautiful Gulf Coast environment – think soft blues and greens reminiscent of Tampa Bay, and even some coral tones."
The concept involves painting or wallpapering one wall in a room a different color or pattern than the others. This draws the eye and can highlight architectural features, a beloved piece of art, or a furniture arrangement. In dining rooms, an accent wall behind a buffet or dining table can create an elegant focal point, making the space feel more intentional and inviting for family meals or entertaining guests.
For living rooms, designers suggest using an accent wall to define a seating area or to make a television or fireplace wall stand out. "It's about creating zones and visual interest," says Michael Thompson, a designer with 'Bay Area Home Styles' near Hyde Park. "We've also seen success with textured wallpapers, like grasscloth or subtle geometric patterns, adding depth without overwhelming the space."
Local hardware stores, such as the Ace Hardware on Kennedy Boulevard in historic downtown Tampa and The Home Depot on North Dale Mabry, report an uptick in sales of single gallons of paint and specialty wallpaper rolls, indicating residents are embracing this trend. Many are choosing to tackle these projects themselves over a weekend, making it an accessible home improvement for many Tampa households.
Whether it's a bold hue or a subtle pattern, an accent wall offers a relatively simple yet impactful way for Tampa residents to refresh their living and dining rooms this spring, reflecting their personal style and the vibrant spirit of our community.
