Father of 3, Engaged to Be Married, Dies in Tragic Tampa Car Crash

Tampa is mourning the loss of a beloved community member, a father of three and soon-to-be husband, who died in a devastating car accident yesterday, April 18, 2026. The crash occurred on Dale Mabry Highway near the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard, a notoriously busy stretch that links South Tampa's vibrant neighborhoods to the downtown core, for commuters and local businesses alike.

While authorities have not yet released the name of the victim, citing ongoing notification of next of kin, sources close to the family have confirmed the tragic news. He was a familiar face in the South Tampa area, especially in the family-centric Palma Ceia neighborhood, often seen at youth sports events at Palma Ceia Little League fields with his children and was an active member of the community. His fiancée, with whom he was planning a wedding for later this year, is said to be inconsolable.

The incident, which involved two vehicles, took place around 6:30 PM, just as evening rush hour was reaching its peak. According to preliminary reports from the Tampa Police Department, one vehicle, traveling northbound on Dale Mabry, reportedly lost control and crossed the median, colliding head-on with the victim's southbound car. Emergency services were on the scene within minutes, but the father of three succumbed to his injuries at the crash site.

The other driver involved in the collision was transported to Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet indicated if speed, impairment, or distracted driving were factors. Residents who frequently travel Dale Mabry Highway expressed shock and sadness at the news, with many noting the inherent dangers of the heavily trafficked corridor.

“It’s just heartbreaking,” said Maria Rodriguez, who owns a small cafe just blocks from the crash site. “You see accidents on Dale Mabry all the time, but when it’s someone from our community, a father… it hits different. My prayers are with his family.”

The loss has sent ripples through local circles, particularly among parents at Roosevelt Elementary School, where his children are enrolled, and at the Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, where he was a member. Details regarding memorial services are expected to be announced in the coming days. The Tampa Police Department urges anyone who witnessed the accident to contact their traffic homicide unit at 813-276-3200.
