Surveillance video sought in fatal shooting outside Little Havana store
Miami police homicide detectives are searching for additional surveillance video and witness tips after a woman was shot and killed outside a Little Havana convenience store late at night on Southwest Third Street. Investigators say the woman was struck by gunfire as she stepped out of Habibi Mini Market, 1810 SW Third St., near Southwest 18th Avenue, during a dispute between other people in the parking area.
According to a preliminary incident summary from Miami Police, officers were called to the scene just before midnight after reports of multiple gunshots. Responding units found the woman on the sidewalk with at least one gunshot wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami Fire-Rescue. Detectives have said they believe she was not the intended target of the shooting.
Surveillance footage released by Miami police and obtained from the market shows the victim walking out of the store moments before shots ring out and people scatter. Detectives are now canvassing the surrounding blocks — including nearby apartment buildings, homes and businesses along SW Third Street and SW 18th Avenue — for any additional camera angles that captured the shooters, their vehicles or their direction of travel.
A Miami Police Department spokesperson said detectives from the Homicide Unit are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Crime Scene Investigation Section. While investigators have reviewed the video from the market, they are asking residents who live within a few blocks of the store to check their doorbell cameras, private security systems and dashboard cameras for any recordings between about 11:30 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. the night of the shooting.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Miami Police Homicide Unit or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477). Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward if their information leads to an arrest. Police say community cooperation — especially additional surveillance footage from Little Havana neighbors — will be critical in identifying those responsible and bringing closure to the victim’s family and the surrounding SW Third Street corridor.
