Strong Thunderstorms Approaching McIntosh, Pittsburg Counties

Residents in McIntosh and Pittsburg counties should consider seeking shelter indoors as a Special Weather Statement has been issued for strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tulsa, OK, issued this alert today, September 20, 2026, at 3:34 PM CDT.

Doppler radar indicates a cluster of strong thunderstorms moving northeast at 40 mph. These storms are currently located along a line extending from 3 miles southeast of Hanna to 2 miles northwest of Wardville. The primary hazard associated with these storms is wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could potentially knock down small tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Affected areas include McAlester, Eufaula, Hartshorne, Krebs, Kiowa, Savanna, Crowder, Alderson, Canadian, Indianola, Hanna, Ashland, Stidham, Raiford, Haywood, Vivian, Lake Eufaula State Park, Blocker, Arrowhead State Park, and McAlester Regional Airport.

The Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and is set to expire at 4:15 PM CDT today, September 20, 2026. If you are outdoors in the affected areas, the NWS advises seeking shelter inside a building.
