Space Florida Locks in New Launch Deals, Boosting Cape Canaveral Jobs

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Space Florida, the state's aerospace economic development authority, continues to fuel the Cape Canaveral Spaceport's resurgence with new commercial partnerships. In a move echoing its 2019 deal with Firefly Aerospace, the agency has welcomed the Texas-based company to establish launch operations at Space Launch Complex 20 and manufacturing at Exploration Park. Firefly's $52 million investment, matched up to $18.9 million through the Florida Department of Transportation's Spaceport Improvement Program, created over 200 jobs while securing a Statement of Capability from the 45th Space Wing for Eastern Range launches[2].
Recent U.S. Space Force contracts amplify the momentum. In October 2025, the Space Systems Command awarded Blue Origin a $78.25 million deal to build a new payload processing facility at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, targeting initial operational capability in early 2028[3]. The high-bay structure will handle satellite fueling, battery charging and encapsulation for National Security Space Launches by Blue Origin, SpaceX and United Launch Alliance, enhancing multi-provider efficiency on Florida's Space Coast[3]. Blue Origin hailed the project as key to supporting higher launch cadences[3].
Infrastructure upgrades underscore the boom. A December 2025 request for information on leasing Space Launch Complex 46 signals fresh opportunities for commercial operators[4], building on Space Florida's 2014 contract with Alliant Techsystems to modernize communications there[1]. With ULA's Vulcan Centaur nearing certification, Blue Origin's New Glenn prepping for flight and startups like ABL Space Systems and Stoke Space revamping pads, Cape Canaveral eyes record launches in 2026 and beyond[5]. These developments solidify Florida's role in the global space race, driving economic growth from Brevard County to the Kennedy Space Center.
