Sevier County Earns Fourth Consecutive Clean Audit from Tennessee Comptroller
Sevierville, TN – Sevier County has once again demonstrated its commitment to sound financial management, receiving a clean audit from the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury for fiscal year 2025. This marks the fourth consecutive year the County has achieved this distinction with no audit findings, and its fifth clean audit in the past eight years, benefiting communities from the historic downtown to the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.
The achievement places Sevier County among a select group of just fifteen counties statewide to earn a clean audit for fiscal year 2025. A clean audit signifies that the County’s financial records were thoroughly reviewed and found to be accurate and in full compliance with applicable accounting standards, with no discrepancies reported.
“This continued recognition reflects a strong, consistent commitment to doing things the right way,” stated Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters. “Our departments and officials take great pride in being good stewards of public funds, and this is the result of that shared responsibility and daily effort.”
Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the collaborative effort involved. “Clean audits don’t happen by chance. They are the product of coordination, accountability, and extensive behind-the-scenes work across multiple departments and offices. From our Highway Department to our School System and finance team, it takes everyone working together to maintain this level of performance year after year.”
Brooke Huffaker, Assistant County Mayor and Senior Director of Finance and Administration, highlighted the diligence of the County’s staff. “This speaks to the consistency and diligence of our staff. Their focus on accuracy, accountability, and strong internal processes is what makes results like this possible.”
Sevier County’s consistent success in earning clean audits underscores its dedication to transparency, robust financial practices, and long-term fiscal planning. Residents interested in reviewing audit reports can find them on the Tennessee Comptroller’s website at comptroller.tn.gov.
