Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Cheyenne, Rawlins Counties Until 7:45 PM CDT

Residents in Cheyenne and Rawlins Counties are advised to seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Goodland, KS. This warning is in effect until 7:45 PM CDT today, September 18, 2026.

At 7:11 PM CDT, NWS radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms moving northeast at 30 mph. These storms are capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Impact from these storms is expected to include hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Affected areas include Atwood, which is expected to be impacted around 7:25 PM CDT, along with Blakeman and Beardsley. For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. These thunderstorms will also produce strong winds causing near zero visibility in blowing dirt. Exercise extreme caution if traveling and be aware of rapidly changing visibility and accumulating hail, which will make driving hazardous. Torrential rainfall may lead to flash flooding; do not drive through flooded roadways.
