September in Sarasota: The Best Time to Ride
Sarasota cyclists are already marking their calendars for September, widely considered the prime month for two-wheeled adventures in our coastal city. While many associate September with the end of summer, local riders know it as the sweet spot for comfortable cycling conditions.
“The humidity finally starts to drop, and the intense heat of July and August gives way to much more pleasant temperatures,” noted avid cyclist and long-time Sarasota resident, Mark Jensen, who often rides the Legacy Trail. “You can go for longer distances without feeling completely drained, and the afternoon thunderstorms become less frequent.”
The cooler mornings and evenings make September ideal for exploring Sarasota’s extensive network of bike paths, including the popular Legacy Trail, which stretches from Palmer Ranch to the historic Venice Train Depot, and the scenic routes along Casey Key Road and the shores of iconic Siesta Key. Local bike shops, like Village Bikes on Bee Ridge Road and those in the bustling downtown area, often see an uptick in tune-ups and new bike sales as residents prepare for the more favorable riding weather.
For those looking to join group rides or discover new routes, several local cycling clubs typically ramp up their schedules in September. Residents interested in getting involved can often find information at their local bike shop or through community bulletin boards.
So, as the calendar inches towards fall, Sarasota’s cycling community is gearing up for what promises to be a fantastic month on two wheels.
