Saint Cloud Power Plant Cleanup Complete on 10th Street

Saint Cloud finished remediating its former power plant site on 10th Street in April, concluding a cleanup that began in summer 2025. The city partnered with Orlando Utilities Commission on the project.

The facility operated as a power generation plant from the 1920s until 2008. In 2020, City Council directed staff to demolish the buildings and close the property. The city signed an interlocal agreement with OUC and a voluntary cleanup agreement with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in 2021.

Workers removed contaminated soil from the site. Environmental professionals now collect and test groundwater samples quarterly to ensure contaminant levels meet state and federal standards. This monitoring phase will continue for several months.

The city has not announced plans for the property's future use.
