Phoenix Police Dismantle Fentanyl Ring with 1.7M Pills Seized in Valley Bust
National Desk
April 28, 2026
Phoenix police, in collaboration with the DEA and Maricopa County Attorney's Office, announced the culmination of Operation Double Down on a recent date, following a probe from April to November 2025. The international drug ring, linked to suppliers in Mexico, distributed fentanyl across the Valley, including Chandler and other Maricopa County cities. Authorities executed hundreds of search warrants after 2,000 hours of surveillance, seizing 1.7 million suspected fentanyl pills, nearly 400 pounds of methamphetamine, 13 pounds of heroin, cocaine, fentanyl powder, $200,000 in cash, and 28 firearms from locations throughout the region.[1][2]
The operation's street value in Arizona exceeds $3.05 million, with potential to double or quadruple farther from the Mexican border, underscoring the ring's broad reach into multiple states. More than 20 arrests have been made, with 25 indictments issued so far and additional suspects expected. While names remain undisclosed pending further proceedings, all 12 suspects in a related Chandler raid were booked into Maricopa County Jail on July 24, facing various felony charges including drug trafficking.[1][2]
Attorney General Chris Mayes emphasized the life-saving impact, stating each seized pill represents a potential life preserved amid Arizona's fentanyl epidemic, which claims hundreds of lives annually in Maricopa County alone. He called on President Trump to deploy more DEA agents to the state to combat border-linked trafficking. The bust highlights ongoing efforts to stem the flow of deadly synthetics fueling overdoses in Phoenix, Chandler and beyond.[2]
