Penn State Baseball Grabs Key Big Ten Road Win in Ohio State Opener

National Desk
April 18, 2026
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Penn State's baseball team erased an early 5-0 hole to secure a 10-6 victory over Ohio State in the series opener on Friday, April 10, at Bill Davis Stadium. The Nittany Lions, representing Happy Valley, improved to 10-21 overall and 4-9 in Big Ten play with the road triumph.[1] Michael Anderson led the charge with three hits, including two doubles and a home run, driving in three RBI and scoring twice. Kevin Karstetter matched him with three hits, a triple, a three-run homer and three runs scored, while Bryce Molinaro added a two-run homer. Avery Smith contributed two RBI as Penn State tallied 10 runs on 10 hits.[1] The Penn State pitching staff clamped down after the rough start, surrendering just one run and five hits over the final 7.2 innings to preserve the win.[1] This resilience highlighted the team's fight despite a challenging 10-21 season record entering the weekend. For Pennsylvania fans, the performance from State College natives and roster standouts offered a bright spot in Big Ten competition.[1][5] Ohio State evened the series Saturday with a narrow 3-2 win, moving to 18-15 overall (8-6 Big Ten), as Penn State fell to 10-22 (4-10).[3] The Buckeyes then clinched the series Sunday, rallying past a late Penn State surge for a 15-10 victory. The Nittany Lions scored two in the second, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the eighth but couldn't overcome Ohio State's offense, dropping to 10-23 overall (4-11 Big Ten).[2][4] Ohio State improved to 19-15 (9-6), marking their third straight Big Ten series win.[2]
