U.S. Representative Dan Meuser, R-Dallas, has helped secure $250,000 in federal funding for Pennsylvania College of Technology's Forest Products Training Center through the Interior and Environment and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Acts.[1] The funding will support building and site upgrades, new equipment, and an addition to the Schneebeli Earth Science Center designed to house a modern mill facility.
The investment targets specific infrastructure improvements at Penn College's Williamsport campus that will directly enhance the Forest Technology program's capabilities. According to Meuser's office, the upgrades will equip students and incumbent workers with modern training in timber production management, preparing them for well-paying careers in Pennsylvania's forest products industry.[1] The new mill addition represents a significant expansion of hands-on learning opportunities for the program.
Penn College's Forest Products Training Center serves a critical role in workforce development across north-central Pennsylvania, where forestry and timber production remain important economic drivers. By modernizing equipment and facilities, the center aims to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and industry standards, ensuring graduates meet employer expectations in a competitive field. The federal investment underscores the region's continued focus on supporting skilled trades and natural resource management education.
