Oolite Arts Exhibition Explores Artist Journeys and Community Ties
Miami Beach, Fla. – Oolite Arts is currently hosting “Crossing the Bridge,” an exhibition that delves into the evolving careers and community connections of its alumni artists. The exhibition, which opened on February 25, 2026, and will run through Sunday, May 24, 2026, is curated by Claire Breukel and Lauryn Lawrence.
“Crossing the Bridge” features works by Edouard Duval-Carrié, Kerry Phillips, Najja Moon, Susan Lee-Chun, and Yanira Collado. The curators, Lauryn Lawrence and Claire Breukel, stated, “In antipathy to the increasing commercialization of art and the formalization of institutions, we have curated an exhibition that forefronts artistic practice, expression and collective thinking within the parameters of Oolite Arts’ alumni program, positing it as a nonfinite program that can grow and evolve, continually informed by new and existing artist alumni.”
The exhibition’s title serves as a metaphor for artistic development and the unique landscape of Miami, a city characterized by its many crossings between neighborhoods, histories, and communities, such as the iconic causeways linking Miami Beach to the mainland. It highlights how artists’ trajectories are woven into broader cultural, social, and geographic narratives influenced by their affiliations and the places they call home.
Visitors can explore the exhibition Monday through Friday, from noon to 5 p.m., with free admission. In addition to the ongoing exhibition, Oolite Arts has scheduled public programming to complement the show. An “Assemblage Building Workshop” hosted by artist Kerry Phillips took place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, inviting participants to creatively repurpose objects that hold personal significance.
Looking ahead, a “Panel Discussion” featuring artists Edouard Duval-Carrié and Yanira Collado, moderated by curator Lauryn Lawrence, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 6–8 p.m. This event also offers free admission and aims to foster dialogue on artist agency and their role in shaping resilient communities.
Oolite Arts, dedicated to supporting artists and advancing contemporary visual arts in South Florida, uses this exhibition to underscore its role as a site of long-term engagement for artists, encouraging an ongoing, evolving artistic ecosystem within Miami-Dade County's diverse cultural fabric.
