Okeechobee County Commissioners Approve New Water Treatment Plant Contract
Okeechobee County Commissioners voted unanimously yesterday, April 7, 2026, to approve a new contract for the construction of a state-of-the-art water treatment plant. The new facility, slated for construction near the existing water utility on NW 10th Street, aims to significantly improve water quality and capacity for residents across the county, including those in farming communities and along Lake Okeechobee.
The contract, awarded to Clearwater Solutions Inc., is valued at $12.5 million. County Administrator Bob R. Johnson stated that the project is a crucial step in addressing the growing demands on the county's water infrastructure, driven by agricultural expansion and population growth. "This new plant will ensure our community has access to clean, reliable drinking water for decades to come," Johnson commented during the commission meeting.
Construction is expected to begin in late summer 2026, with an estimated completion time of 18-24 months. Residents can anticipate updates on the project's progress through the County's official website and future commission meetings.
