New Felony Charge in Orange County Expressway Assault Case
National Desk
April 23, 2026
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Daniel Coman, 44, was re-arrested Monday at Orange County Jail on a felony criminal mischief charge tied to a March 30 incident near Avalon Road and Hartzog Road. Deputies say Coman jumped onto the hood of a woman's gray 2021 Toyota Corolla after she honked at him, banging on the windshield and inflicting an estimated $3,200 in damage. The scene sat less than 4 miles from his later arrest on State Road 429, the 429 Expressway, about 20 minutes afterward.[1]
Coman has stayed in custody without bond since his initial arrest for savagely attacking good Samaritan Hans Hamilton, who stopped to help what appeared to be a crashed vehicle on the expressway. Hamilton endured a brain bleed and four broken ribs in the ambush-style assault. He already faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, assault on a law enforcement officer, battery, and criminal mischief from that roadside beating.[1]
The string of events has spotlighted dangers on Central Florida's busy expressways, where the 429 links Orange County suburbs to major arteries like Florida's Turnpike. Orange County Sheriff's Office investigators connected Coman to the car damage through proximity and timing, bolstering the case against him. No court date for the new charge was immediately available.[1]
