Miami Lakes Advances NW 59th Ave Extension Near The Roads

National Desk
May 11, 2026
MIAMI LAKES, FL — The Town of Miami Lakes has detailed plans for the NW 59th Ave Roadway Extension Project, which includes constructing a bridge over the C-8 Canal (Canal #870609) and roadway improvements extending south to NW 151st Street. The initiative also features Complete Streets enhancements to NW 151st Street/NW 153rd Street from Miami Lakeway North to NW 57th Court, according to the town's official project page. Project Manager Omar Santos Baez, P.E., Public Works Director, is overseeing the effort, reachable at [email protected] or (305) 512-7133. Affected roadways include NW 59th Avenue from NW 158th Street to NW 151st Street. The project is funded through a HUD CPF Grant, FDOT State-funded Grant, CIGP Grant, PTP, Road Impact Fees, and Local Option Fuel Tax, with an estimated completion in May 2028. A $3.6 million grant recently secured by the town will help complete the extension, boosting interconnectivity along the NW 151/153 streets corridor, as announced on miamilaker.com. This local infrastructure push aligns with Gov. Ron DeSantis' recent signing of a statewide transportation bill providing major highway expansion funding to combat chronic congestion. For The Roads residents, who share proximity to Miami Lakes and face similar traffic woes from nearby developments like the City of Miami's traffic calming efforts in The Roads Neighborhood, the bridge could improve regional flow toward landmarks such as Miami Lakeway. Amid Florida's surging foreclosures—now third worst nationally—and rising insurance costs straining homeowners, such projects highlight competing priorities as the state also activates $50 million in hurricane prep funds. While traffic relief offers long-term commute savings, construction disruptions may add short-term headaches for locals navigating NW 151st Street.
