Miami-Dade County to Expand Service Areas for Residential Waste Collection
Miami-Dade County residents in several unincorporated areas are set to see expanded residential waste collection services, following an announcement from the Department of Solid Waste Management. The expansion, which aims to improve efficiency and coverage, will take effect starting next Monday, April 21, 2026.
The new service areas will primarily impact neighborhoods previously underserved or those experiencing rapid growth. Specific streets and communities affected include portions of West Kendall, a sprawling suburb with tree-lined streets, the Redland agricultural area, known for its historic fruit farms, and several blocks east of Krome Avenue near Southwest 184th Street. Residents in these newly included zones will receive detailed information packets by mail this week, outlining their new collection schedules and guidelines for waste and recycling.
According to a spokesperson for the Department of Solid Waste Management, this initiative is part of a broader county-wide effort to standardize services and ensure all unincorporated areas receive equitable waste management. The department encourages residents with questions to visit the Miami-Dade County Solid Waste Management website or call their customer service line at 311 for more information.
