Local Bartenders Share Their Go-To Hangover Cures
As the weekend approaches, many Floridians might find themselves in need of a little relief after a night out. We spoke with several local bartenders across the state, from the bustling establishments on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach to the cozy pubs in St. Augustine's historic district, to get their tried-and-true hangover remedies.
Maria Rodriguez, who has been slinging drinks at 'The Salty Siren' in Key West for over a decade, swears by a simple combination of coconut water and a hearty Cuban sandwich. "Hydration is key," Rodriguez stated, "and that sandwich just brings you back to life."
Up in Gainesville, at 'The Swamp Bar & Grill' near the University of Florida campus, bartender David Chen recommends a different approach. "For me, it's a strong black coffee, two ibuprofen, and a greasy breakfast burrito from 'Mama's Kitchen' on University Avenue," Chen shared. "Gets you right back in the game."
Meanwhile, in Orlando, Sarah Jenkins from 'The Citrus Lounge' downtown suggests a less conventional method. "A Bloody Mary, but make it spicy, and a long walk along Lake Eola Park," Jenkins advised. "The fresh air and a little hair of the dog usually do the trick."
While these remedies are popular among those who know the ins and outs of a good time, medical professionals consistently advise moderation and proper hydration as the best preventative measures. However, for those moments when prevention falls short, these local tips offer a glimpse into how Floridians cope.
