Little Havana Mobile Home Park Issues Eviction Notices to 200 Families

National Desk
May 12, 2026
Silver Court Mobile Home Park, located near Southwest 8th Street and 32nd Avenue close to Woodlawn Park Cemetery, has served Little Havana families for 65 years. On March 11, residents received notices from a firm representing the property owner, mandating vacating by Sept. 30. Attorney Jorge Piedra, representing the owner, stated the park is no longer viable due to aging structures, storm damage and general deterioration, according to reports from CBS Miami and Local 10 News based on resident notices and owner statements. Relocation incentives include up to $13,000 for those moving their mobile homes out by May 31, or $12,750 for abandoning them by the same date. Payments drop to $8,000 by July 15 and $5,500 by Aug. 31, per resident notices cited in CBS Miami reporting. Residents pay nearly $1,000 monthly for land leases, many expressing shock over limited options, especially seniors with few resources. The closures exacerbate housing pressures in Little Havana, where affordable options dwindle amid cost-of-living strains. Florida gas prices fell to $4.40 per gallon statewide this week, offering minor relief, but broader economic uncertainty from new 15% federal import tariffs could hike everyday goods costs. Miami-Dade County records show no specific intervention yet, though residents urge Commissioner Joe Carollo's office for aid. This comes as South Florida battles an 11,000-acre Everglades wildfire scorching air quality; Miami-Dade Emergency Management advises sensitive groups in Little Havana to limit outdoor time and monitor AirNow.gov for AQI updates, currently moderate. The eviction highlights vulnerabilities for fixed-income communities, paralleling statewide displacement fears from environmental threats.
