Lake City Residents Enjoy Farm-Fresh Pizza Dinner

Lake City residents gathered last Saturday evening for a unique farm-fresh pizza dinner, an event that brought together local produce and community spirit. The dinner, held at the Lake City Community Park in Columbia County, featured pizzas made with ingredients sourced directly from area farms and gardens.

The initiative, organized by the Lake City Agricultural Collective, aimed to highlight the bounty of local agriculture and foster connections between residents and their food sources. Volunteers from the collective, along with several local chefs, prepared a variety of pizzas on site using portable wood-fired ovens. Toppings included freshly picked tomatoes, basil, bell peppers, and artisanal cheeses from nearby Columbia County dairies.

"It was wonderful to see so many families out enjoying a meal together, knowing that almost everything on their plate came from just a few miles away," said Martha Jenkins, a long-time Lake City resident and volunteer with the Agricultural Collective. "Events like these remind us of the rich resources we have right here in our own backyard."

The evening also featured live acoustic music from local musicians and a small market where attendees could purchase fresh produce directly from the farmers who supplied the dinner. Children enjoyed a designated play area and even had the chance to help stretch some of the pizza dough.

Organizers reported a strong turnout, with over 200 tickets sold. Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Lake City Agricultural Collective's educational programs and their efforts to establish a community garden at the old Elm Street lot in the heart of Lake City next spring. Due to the success of the dinner, the Collective is already planning a similar event for late summer, focusing on a different seasonal harvest.
