Hillsborough County School Board Approves 2026-2027 Academic Calendar
Tampa, FL – The Hillsborough County School Board has officially approved the academic calendar for the 2026-2027 school year, providing families and educators with a clear roadmap for the upcoming educational period. The decision, made at a recent board meeting, outlines key dates for students attending public schools across Tampa's diverse neighborhoods and the wider county.
The new calendar sets the first day of school for students on Monday, August 10, 2026. This date allows for a full week of teacher planning and professional development prior to students' arrival, ensuring staff are well-prepared for the academic year.
Key breaks throughout the year include a week-long Thanksgiving holiday from November 23-27, 2026. The winter break will commence on December 21, 2026, with students returning to classrooms on January 6, 2027. A spring break is scheduled for March 15-19, 2027, aligning with traditional schedules to accommodate family plans, including outings to nearby Gulf Coast beaches.
Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2027 are tentatively scheduled for late May, with the last day of school for students set for Friday, May 28, 2027. Specific dates for individual high school graduations will be announced closer to the event.
The approved calendar also designates several professional development days for teachers and staff, during which students will not attend school. These days are strategically placed to minimize disruption to instructional time while providing essential training for educators.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to review the full calendar, which will be made available on the Hillsborough County Public Schools website. This proactive approval aims to assist families in planning vacations, appointments, and other commitments well in advance, ensuring a smooth and predictable school year for all.
