Gale Watch Issued for Delaware Bay Waters: Prepare for Hazardous Conditions

A Gale Watch has been issued for Delaware Bay waters south of East Point NJ to Slaughter Beach DE. Mariners are advised to alter plans and prepare for hazardous conditions from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly, NJ, issued the alert today, September 24, at 1:12 PM EDT.

Northeast winds of 20 to 30 knots with gusts up to 35 knots and very rough waters are possible during the Gale Watch period. This follows a current Gale Warning in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening with similar wind conditions.

These strong winds are expected to create hazardous seas that could capsize or damage vessels and significantly reduce visibility. The NWS strongly advises mariners to remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure their vessels for these hazardous conditions. This Gale Watch is effective immediately and remains in effect until September 26 at 6:00 PM EDT.
