Gale Warning: Hazardous Conditions for Delaware Bay Mariners

Mariners operating in the Delaware Bay waters south of East Point, NJ, to Slaughter Beach, DE, are advised to alter plans and take immediate precautions due to a Gale Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mount Holly, NJ. This warning is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening, September 24, 2026.

Northeast winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 knots (approximately 23 to 34 mph) with gusts up to 35 knots (approximately 40 mph), creating very rough waters. These conditions pose a significant risk, as strong winds and hazardous seas could capsize or damage vessels and severely reduce visibility.

A subsequent Gale Watch has also been issued for the same area, effective from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon, with similar wind conditions anticipated from the north.

The NWS strongly instructs mariners to remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure their vessels to avoid these hazardous conditions.
