Gale Warning Issued: Dangerous Marine Conditions Expected Off VA-NC Coast

Mariners are advised to alter plans and avoid hazardous conditions as a Gale Warning has been issued for waters from Cape Charles Light to the Virginia-North Carolina border, 20 to 60 nautical miles offshore. The National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA, issued the warning at 9:04 PM EDT on September 22, effective from 1 AM Wednesday, September 23, until 6 PM EDT Friday, September 25.

Northeast winds of 25 to 35 knots, with gusts up to 45 knots, are expected. Seas are forecast to be between 12 and 18 feet. These strong winds and high seas could capsize or damage vessels and significantly reduce visibility, posing a substantial risk to marine traffic.
