Fort Lauderdale City Commission Approves New Park Benches for Las Olas Boulevard
Fort Lauderdale residents and visitors can look forward to more comfortable strolls along Las Olas Boulevard, as the City Commission yesterday, April 8, 2026, approved the purchase and installation of 25 new park benches. The decision, made during the regular commission meeting at City Hall, aims to enhance pedestrian comfort and accessibility in the popular downtown area.
The new benches, costing an estimated $35,000, will be strategically placed along the boulevard, particularly in areas near popular shops and restaurants, and leading towards the scenic New River waterfront. Funding for the project will come from the city's parks and recreation budget. Installation is expected to begin in late May and be completed by early summer, just in time for increased foot traffic.
Commissioner John Smith, representing District 2, expressed his support for the initiative, stating, "This is a small but significant improvement that will make a big difference for those enjoying our beautiful Las Olas Boulevard. We want to ensure everyone, from our long-time residents to our many tourists, can comfortably experience all that Fort Lauderdale has to offer."
