Fort Lauderdale City Commission Approves New Contract for Beach Cleaning Services
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – May 22, 2019 – The Fort Lauderdale City Commission has approved a new contract for beach cleaning services, ensuring the continued pristine condition of the city's iconic coastline. The decision, made during yesterday's commission meeting at City Hall in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale on Andrews Avenue, awards the contract to Coastal Clean-Up Solutions, a company with a strong local presence and a history of environmental stewardship in South Florida.
The new agreement, which takes effect on July 1, 2019, is valued at $1.2 million annually and will cover daily cleaning operations along the renowned Fort Lauderdale Beach from Port Everglades Inlet north to Commercial Boulevard. This includes the removal of litter, seaweed, and debris, maintaining the high standards residents and visitors expect from our beaches.
Commissioner John Smith, representing District 2, emphasized the importance of this contract. "Our beaches are a vital part of Fort Lauderdale's identity and economy," he stated. "This new contract with Coastal Clean-Up Solutions ensures they remain beautiful and accessible for everyone."
Coastal Clean-Up Solutions will utilize a fleet of specialized beach raking equipment and a dedicated team to perform the cleaning tasks, primarily during early morning hours to minimize disruption to beachgoers. Residents can expect to see these operations in full swing starting next month.
