Flagami Community Cleanup Set for This Saturday
National Desk
May 14, 2026
The Flagami Community Association has announced a neighborhood cleanup event scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will focus on picking up litter and trimming overgrown areas along Southwest 24th Street and in Alvin Glancy Park at 4500 SW 10th St. The initiative follows reports of increased debris from recent winds, according to a press release from the association posted on the City of Miami's community events page.
Organizers, led by Flagami resident Maria Lopez, emphasize the event's role in maintaining the neighborhood's family-friendly vibe. 'Flagami is our home, and keeping it clean strengthens our community bonds,' Lopez stated in the release. Registration is available via the association's website, with supplies provided at the meetup point near the Flagami Library branch at 4405 SW 24th St.
This cleanup aligns with Miami-Dade County's ongoing volunteer efforts, similar to monthly events at Crandon Park, as listed on volunteercleanup.org. Last year's Flagami event removed over 500 pounds of trash, per city records from the Department of Public Works. Residents are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and bring gloves if possible.
Miami Today first reported the event details in its May 13 edition, citing the association's public filing with the city. Commissioner Manolo Reyes, whose district includes Flagami, endorsed the effort in a statement on miamigov.com, noting it supports local beautification goals.
