Escambia County Announces Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events

Pensacola residents will have multiple opportunities to safely dispose of household hazardous waste and electronics this year, as Escambia County has announced its schedule for collection events. These events provide a crucial service for the community, ensuring that harmful materials are kept out of landfills and properly processed.

The first collection event is slated for Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Perdido Landfill, located at 13009 Beulah Road. Following this, another event will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the same location and time. The final event for the year is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, also at the Perdido Landfill from 8 a.m. to noon.

These collection days are open to all Escambia County residents. Acceptable items include common household chemicals such as paints, solvents, pesticides, fertilizers, pool chemicals, and automotive fluids. Electronics like old televisions, computers, printers, and cell phones will also be accepted. It's important to note that commercial or business waste will not be accepted at these residential collection events.

Proper disposal of household hazardous waste is vital for protecting our local environment and public health. Materials like these can contaminate soil and water if not handled correctly, posing risks to both wildlife and human populations along the Gulf Coast. The county's initiative helps residents responsibly manage these items, preventing them from entering the regular waste stream.

Residents are encouraged to check the Escambia County Waste Services website or call their customer service line for a comprehensive list of accepted and unaccepted items before attending an event. This ensures a smooth and efficient process for everyone involved.

By participating in these collection events, Pensacola residents contribute directly to a cleaner, safer community and help preserve the natural beauty of our historic city and its surrounding Emerald Coast beaches.
