Early Release Bell Schedule Announced for Local Schools

New Port Richey parents and students should take note of upcoming changes to the school day, as local schools have announced an early release bell schedule for next week. This adjustment is part of a district-wide initiative to allow for professional development sessions for faculty and staff.

On Wednesday, April 16, 2026, all public schools within the New Port Richey area will dismiss students approximately two hours earlier than their regular schedule. This includes elementary, middle, and high schools serving our community from the historic downtown to coastal neighborhoods.

For elementary schools such as Cotee River Elementary and Richey Elementary, dismissal will be at 12:30 PM. Middle schools, including Gulf Middle School, will release students at 1:00 PM. River Ridge High School and Gulf High School students will be dismissed at 1:30 PM.

School officials emphasize that bus transportation will be provided at the adjusted dismissal times, and after-school programs will operate on a modified schedule. Parents are encouraged to contact their child's specific school directly for detailed information regarding bus routes, after-school care arrangements, and any other program adjustments for the early release day.

The early release day is designed to provide teachers and support staff with dedicated time for training and collaborative planning, ultimately aiming to enhance the educational experience for students. These professional development days are scheduled periodically throughout the school year to ensure educators remain current with best practices and curriculum advancements.

Families are advised to make necessary arrangements for student pickup and supervision on this early dismissal day. Further information can be found on the individual school websites or by contacting the school front office during regular business hours.
