Dunnellon Residents Can Still Claim Inflation Reduction Act Tax Credits for Home Upgrades
Dunnellon homeowners and renters looking to make energy-efficient improvements to their homes still have opportunities to claim significant tax credits under the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). With today being April 16, 2026, many residents are finalizing their 2025 tax returns, and it's a good time to remember these ongoing benefits for future planning.
The IRA, signed into law in August 2022, extended and expanded several tax credits designed to encourage investments in clean energy and energy efficiency. These credits can help offset the cost of upgrades like installing new energy-efficient windows, doors, insulation, heat pumps, and solar panels.
For example, the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) offers a credit of up to 30% of the cost of eligible home improvements, with a maximum annual credit of $1,200 for most upgrades and up to $2,000 for heat pumps, biomass stoves, or biomass boilers. This credit applies to improvements made and placed in service after December 31, 2022, and before January 1, 2033. This means upgrades made in 2025 and those planned for 2026 are eligible.
Additionally, the Residential Clean Energy Credit (25D) provides a 30% tax credit for the cost of new, qualified clean energy property for your home, such as solar electric panels, solar water heaters, wind turbines, and geothermal heat pumps. There is no credit limit except for fuel cell property. This credit is also available through 2032.
Local contractors and energy auditors in the Dunnellon area, particularly those serving homes along the scenic Rainbow River, have reported an increase in inquiries regarding these types of home improvements. "We've seen a definite uptick in folks asking about heat pump installations and solar options, especially with the tax credits making it more affordable," noted a representative from a local HVAC company who wished to remain unnamed. "It's a smart move for homeowners looking to save on utility bills in the long run."
Residents considering these upgrades are encouraged to keep detailed records of all expenses, including receipts and manufacturer certifications, as these will be necessary when filing for the credits. It's also advisable to consult with a tax professional to understand how these credits apply to individual financial situations.
These federal incentives aim to reduce energy consumption and promote cleaner energy sources, offering a tangible benefit to Dunnellon residents who choose to invest in their homes' energy efficiency.
