Dunedin Residents Share Tips for Streak-Free Windows

Staff Writer
April 9, 2026

As spring cleaning gets underway in Dunedin, many residents are turning their attention to sparkling windows. Achieving a streak-free shine can be a challenge, but local homeowners and businesses have shared their tried-and-true methods for crystal-clear panes.

One popular tip involves using a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and distilled water, applied with a microfiber cloth. "It's amazing how well it works," said Sarah Jenkins, owner of Jenkins Hardware in Dunedin's vibrant downtown on Main Street. "We've sold more microfiber cloths this past month than ever before, and customers keep telling us it's for their windows."

Another common recommendation is to clean windows on a cloudy day. Direct sunlight can cause cleaning solutions to dry too quickly, leaving behind unsightly streaks. Local resident Mark Thompson, who lives near the scenic Hammock Park, swears by this method. "I used to clean my windows in the morning sun, and they always looked terrible," he explained. "Now I wait for an overcast day, and the difference is night and day."

For those tackling stubborn grime, many suggest pre-washing windows with a solution of dish soap and water to remove loose dirt before applying a streak-free cleaner. Finally, using a squeegee with overlapping strokes, wiping the blade after each pass, is a technique favored by many for a professional finish. These simple tips can help Dunedin residents enjoy clearer views and brighter homes this season.
