Davie Residents Urged to Review Property Tax Exemptions Ahead of June 1 Deadline
Davie property owners are reminded to review their homestead and other property tax exemptions as the June 1 deadline for filing approaches. The Broward County Property Appraiser's Office encourages all eligible residents to ensure their exemptions are properly filed to receive significant savings on their 2026 property tax bills.
Homestead exemption is the most common and provides a reduction in the taxable value of a primary residence. To qualify, a property owner must reside in the home and claim it as their permanent residence as of January 1, 2026. New Davie residents—whether settling into equestrian communities or family neighborhoods—who purchased a home last year and now occupy it as their primary residence should apply if they haven't already.
Beyond the standard homestead exemption, other valuable exemptions are available for eligible individuals. These include exemptions for seniors, widows/widowers, disabled veterans, and those with certain disabilities. Each exemption has specific criteria, and residents are advised to check their eligibility.
"Ensuring your exemptions are up-to-date is crucial for managing your property tax burden," stated a representative from the Property Appraiser's Office. "We want every eligible Davie homeowner to benefit from the savings they are entitled to."
The deadline to file for all 2026 exemptions is June 1. Applications can be submitted online through the Broward County Property Appraiser's website, by mail, or in person at their main office located at 115 S. Andrews Ave., Room 111, Fort Lauderdale. While the office is not directly in Davie, it's a short drive via I-595 or Griffin Road, making their services vital and accessible for all Broward County residents, including those in our town.
Property owners who have previously filed for homestead exemption and continue to reside in the same property generally do not need to reapply annually, as the exemption automatically renews. However, it is always a good practice to verify your exemption status, especially if there have been any changes to your property or residency.
Residents with questions or needing assistance with their applications can contact the Broward County Property Appraiser's Office directly. Taking a few moments to review and file exemptions now can lead to substantial savings later in the year.
