PLANTATION, Fla. -- Communities from Davie, Weston, Cooper City and Plantation converged on Plantation Central Park Saturday, April 18, 2026, for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, a vibrant evening from 5 to 10 p.m. that celebrated survivors, honored the lost and fueled cancer research. The Town of Davie's Team Horsing Around joined forces with neighbors under the rallying cry "Let’s Give Cancer the Boot," encouraging boots, flannels and hats in a Western-themed spectacle presented by UKG.[1][2]
The opening ceremony kicked off at 5 p.m. with performances, check presentations and medals for survivors and caregivers, followed by a survivor dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Guests competed in team booth activities, raffled prizes, explored a kids zone and savored pulled chicken and meatball sandwiches sold by Davie to boost funds. Torches of Hope lit up in memory of those lost, culminating in the Luminaria Ceremony, where lanterns lined the track from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. to honor cancer fighters.[1][2]
Davie's team aimed to raise $10,000 for the society's research and patient care, sitting less than $3,000 shy as the night unfolded. Relay for Life funds drive Florida's cancer fight, supporting advocacy, free rides to treatment and groundbreaking studies that touch lives statewide. With music, survivor laps and community spirit, the Broward County event underscored South Florida's resolve.[1][2]
