Community Mourns Philanthropist Chipper Savage, Champion of The Kampong

The Miami-Dade community is remembering Katherine “Chipper” W. Savage, a dedicated philanthropist and environmental advocate, who passed away on April 29, 2024. Savage was a longtime supporter of the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) and its Coconut Grove location, The Kampong, nestled in the historic neighborhood known for its lush tropical heritage.

Savage's generosity and vision were instrumental in advancing NTBG’s mission of plant discovery, conservation, and education. She held a particular passion for supporting educational programs for children and was committed to preserving the unique beauty and rich history of The Kampong, overlooking Biscayne Bay.

According to NTBG, Savage's warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The organization extended its heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

Her contributions to environmental causes and her dedication to The Kampong have left a lasting impact on the local community and the broader botanical conservation efforts.
