Can this Young Lad Outdress this Old Lad?
Miami-Dade County residents are gearing up for a unique fashion showdown that promises to be more about community spirit than couture. The much-anticipated "Young Lad vs. Old Lad Style-Off" is set to take place this Saturday, April 12, at the Kendall Community Center on Sunset Drive.
The event, organized by the Kendall Men's Social Club, pits local high school student, 17-year-old Marco Rodriguez from Palmetto Bay, against seasoned community figure, 68-year-old Arthur "Art" Jenkins of Pinecrest. Both men are known for their distinct personal styles, with Rodriguez often seen sporting the latest trends from Dadeland Mall, while Jenkins is a familiar sight in his impeccably tailored classic wear from local tailor, Mr. Vincenzo's on historic US-1.
"It's all in good fun," said Jenkins, a retired history teacher from Miami Palmetto Senior High. "Marco's got a good eye, but you can't beat decades of experience. Plus, I've got a few tricks up my sleeve." Rodriguez, a senior at Miami Killian High School, countered with a confident grin, "Mr. Jenkins has great taste, but the future of fashion is now. I'm ready to show everyone what Miami-Dade style really looks like."
The style-off will feature three rounds: casual wear, business casual, and a "Miami Night Out" theme evoking the vibrant energy of South Beach. A panel of local judges, including boutique owner Maria Sanchez from Coral Gables and fashion instructor Dr. Evelyn Reed from Miami Dade College's Kendall Campus, will evaluate the contestants. The event kicks off at 7:00 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $5 at the door, with proceeds benefiting the Kendall Community Center's youth programs. Light refreshments will be served.
