Alamosa County Declares May 2026 Building Safety Month
The Alamosa Board of County Commissioners proclaimed May 2026 as Building Safety Month, recognizing the work of building inspectors, fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, and tradespeople who ensure safe construction.
Alamosa County uses the 2018 edition of the International Building Code, which includes protections against windstorms, snowstorms, tornadoes, wildland fires, floods, and earthquakes common to the San Luis Valley. The codes also address hazards from substandard construction.
The International Code Council sponsors Building Safety Month to highlight the role of local code officials in ensuring safe, sustainable, and affordable buildings. This year's theme, "Built to Last," focuses on disaster mitigation, energy conservation, career opportunities in building safety, and water supply management for the valley's agricultural communities.
The commissioners invite county residents to participate in Building Safety Month activities throughout May 2026.
