Braves Minor Leaguer Arrested in Deadly I-75 Hit-and-Run Near Bradenton

BRADENTON, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol arrested 18-year-old Jonathan Matos Morales, a Cocoa resident and recent Atlanta Braves minor league catcher, following a deadly multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 south of State Road 64 in Manatee County on Monday morning. Troopers say Morales, driving a dark-colored 2022 Ford Mustang, was weaving in and out of southbound traffic in the left lane before merging into the middle lane and striking a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a 63-year-old man. The collision triggered a chain reaction that caused the Trailblazer to hit a semi-tractor-trailer, killing 34-year-old truck driver Kareem Facey, a father of four.[1][2][3] Morales briefly stopped at the scene before fleeing southbound, prompting FHP to release video and photos of the Mustang to identify the driver. The Braves spotted the matching vehicle in their compound, confronted Morales and arrested him on charges of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
