BBI Village Dedicated: New Homes for Fort Lauderdale Families

National Desk
May 10, 2026
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — BBI Village, a 20-townhome affordable housing development in Fort Lauderdale's 33311 zip code, reached a major milestone with its official dedication ceremony on May 9. Located at 1923 Northwest 9th Avenue, the community was developed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Broward and BBI, providing safe, stable housing for 20 hardworking families. The project is projected to benefit 36 adults and 72 children, addressing the county's acute affordable housing shortage where rising costs have sidelined homeownership for many residents. The dedication follows months of construction progress, including a Team Build event on Feb. 7 by Emerge Broward and Habitat for Humanity, and BBI's support for the 7th Annual CEO Build on Jan. 24. "Housing costs are a huge problem here in Broward County, so we’re chipping away at one of the biggest issues facing our community," BBI executive Taylor said during the CEO event, according to BBI's announcement. State funding of $540,000, approved by Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2023 budget, helped launch the shovel-ready initiative, per Habitat Broward's July 20, 2023, press release. BBI Village represents Habitat for Humanity of Broward's ongoing commitment, having built 514 homes in Broward County since 1983, as detailed on their official communities page. The development emphasizes long-term stability and generational impact in a neighborhood near Sistrunk Boulevard, a key corridor for local revitalization efforts. As Florida's unemployment dips to 2.8% in April 2026 and lawmakers pass $2 billion in property tax relief, initiatives like BBI Village align with the state's economic recovery, offering pathways to self-sufficiency for families in Fort Lauderdale's urban core. Amid broader resilience efforts, including storm recovery, the project underscores community-driven solutions to housing challenges.
