American Alligator Spotted Near Cocoa Village
Cocoa residents are advised to exercise caution after an American alligator was sighted yesterday, April 7, 2026, in the waters near the historic Cocoa Village. The sighting occurred along the Indian River Lagoon, close to the popular Riverfront Park.
While alligator sightings are not uncommon in Florida, this particular instance serves as a reminder for locals and visitors to remain vigilant, especially when near natural bodies of water. Wildlife officials recommend keeping a safe distance from alligators and never feeding them, as this can make them lose their natural fear of humans.
Parents are encouraged to supervise children and pets closely when recreating in areas adjacent to the lagoon. If an alligator is observed in a location that poses a threat to people, pets, or property, residents should contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) immediately.
